DOG VACCINATIONS & WELLNESS CARE

DOG VACCINATIONS

Protecting your dog from preventable illnesses is one of the simplest ways to ensure they enjoy a long, joyful life. At Morayfield Veterinary Surgery, we combine vaccinations with a full wellness check, so your dog leaves healthy, happy, and protected for the year ahead.

WHY VACCINES AND ANNUAL WELLNESS VISITS MATTER

PUPPIES
PUPPIES

Maternal antibodies fade over weeks and can interfere with vaccines. That’s why early-stage vaccinations (typically at 6-8 weeks, 12 weeks, and 16 weeks) are needed to build reliable immunity. During your puppy’s check-up, we will discuss important preventative health care and they will receive their first complete physical examination. Pups will be checked for overall health and possible birth defects or genetic conditions.

ADULTS
ADULTS

Immunity wanes over time. Annual boosters paired with health checks are vital to maintain protection. During your dog’s adult life, regular visits are important to maintain their health and detect early signs of illness. Our team is here to support them through every stage of their life.

SENIORS
SENIORS

From around seven years old, dogs can face age-related concerns. Regular exams help detect and manage issues early, from joint health to organ function. Consistent check-ups mean early detection and effective management so your companion stays comfortable and active.

CORE VACCINATIONS FOR DOGS

We protect against the most common and dangerous canine diseases with the C5 vaccination:

  • Canine Parvovirus: Can cause severe, often fatal diarrhoea and vomiting. This virus is highly resilient and survives for long periods in the environment.

  • Distemper: A contagious virus affecting the respiratory and nervous systems; it can lead to seizures, balance problems, and blindness. Often deadly.

  • Canine Hepatitis (Adenovirus): May cause rapid, fatal liver damage and long-term health issues in survivors.

  • Kennel Cough (Parainfluenza, Bordetella, Adenovirus): A highly infectious respiratory disease that spreads quickly where dogs mix (parks, kennels, daycare, shows). Symptoms include coughing, sneezing, a runny nose, loss of appetite, and lethargy.

Keeping your dog’s core vaccinations up to date protects not only your pet but also the wider dog community.

BEYOND VACCINES: YEAR-ROUND PROTECTION

Heartworm Prevention

We recommend the Proheart SR-12 injection, a single yearly treatment that provides continuous protection against heartworm disease. Unlike monthly pills or chews, one injection covers your dog for 12 months.

Heartworm infections can be silent at first, but later cause coughing, reduced exercise tolerance, and even heart failure. Prevention is far safer and more affordable than treatment.

Flea & Tick Control

For long-lasting protection, we recommend Bravecto Quantum, a yearly injection that starts working fast to kill fleas and ticks.

  • Fleas: Controlled within 24-48 hours of treatment.

  • Ticks: Killed within approximately two days of attaching.

  • Coverage: Provides extended protection from a single treatment.

For added flexibility, flea and tick control is also available as spot-on treatments or tasty chews, so you can choose the option that best suits your dog and lifestyle.

BUNDLE & SAVE

Keep your dog protected from both heartworm, fleas, and ticks the easy way. Combine the Proheart SR-12 injection with the Bravecto Quantum injection for all-year coverage—at a special bundle price.

POST-VACCINATION CARE

A mild reaction, like being a bit off-colour or a tender injection site is common and usually resolves in a day or two with rest and hydration. If anything seems more severe or lasts longer, please contact us right away.
